Hesed

Elders,

Recently we have received a lot of talks that talk about Hesed (unconditional covenant charity). This action words is all over Psalms 136 primarily but it's seeded all over scriptures. Brothren, let me paint a picture. Suppose you were a a pioneer pushing a cart in the snow. You feel the push from the angels. You feel the pull of the angels. Angels, as defined by Joseph Smith, are resurrected beings or beings who have been so valent in life that they have earned their place in the Celestial Kingdom, though they are dead (William Clayton account, February 9 1843). Do you hear your angels prompting you? Do you hear the Holy Ghost using words you have heard before?

I hope you have a hesed relationship with people who are sealed to you. Your father and mother, your sisters and brothers, these relationships are eternal but not the only ones, your ancestors want that same relationship. Your Savior and Father in Heaven want that relationship. The Holy Ghost is a gift. He wants that relationship. It means opening up that faith and trust to those individuals. It means being loyal in your covenants, to constantly be in a state of repentance. Heavenly Father wants to show you so much and from your letters I am seeing that you are recognizing those blessings, those miracles. Ask Him the very things of your desires. Nephi, the grandson of Helaman asked and because of his covenant relationship, God told him that what ever he asked, would come to pass (Helaman 11:3-4). His experience is not limited to him alone but to you as priesthood holder within the confines of your mission responsibilities. Guys, pour out the desire of your hearts verbally so that the Savior will recognize your voice as you strive to recognize His. Ask and you will receive, knock and it will be open up to you (Matthew 7:7-8). You are the Savior's servants, not His tools. Servants receive instruction and act with inspiration. Tools cannot act but are acted alone, to be acted upon. You are more, you are sons of God. 

Anyways, enough of my babelings. God bless you. Remember your covenants. They require action. As you push your cart of life know that we pray for you, for the angels to help you, that the Father and the Son will bless you and that you have a gift, an incredible gift. Work like it all depends on you, then lean on the Spirit for all things you lack. You're awesome.

Ah, Packer Town, home of the cheese heads. So many stories. It is difficult moving from field to field (or it was for me) but He does it for the benefit of His purposes. Might I recommend on a prep day trying the cheese and talking to the locals?  You are so far ahead spiritually than I was when I was your age. When you teach repentance, teach the people, it is not feeling guilty, it is not the sad countenance, sackcloth, or ashes that pleases God. It is the intense work and desire to restore the relationship lost. Feeling sorry and apologizing is only part of the process. When we do wrong things and our parents punished us, it wasn't the punishment that showed repentance. When we strived, worked, and pleaded to restore the trust lost that our parents blessed us with trust. They knew that we wanted to be good. Heavenly Father is no different. My dear cousin, It's in the plain and simple things (like bunnies) that joy and truth can and will be found. Look for those things in your mission. Being a primary teacher has taught me so much and has brought to light so much of my mission and what it means to me. The message that you are teaching will strengthen your testimony. Do not ever be afraid to open your mouth. Your Heavenly Father will teach you and lead you to hearts that are open and searching for Him and the Savior. Every experience will lead you to where you need to be.  I aim to write you regularly so as to encourage you, cousin. Thrust in your sickle with all your heart, might, mind and strength. Money I have none

Dear Cousin,  Your going about the Gospel rightly. When I was a young nineteen year old, my companion and I had a dry spell. Earnestly we worked and daily we were rejected. It was one such day that got a call and it was during lunch. I was eager to eat but my companion told me to hold that thought. He ordered me to get on our bikes and follow him. I thought it was so peculiar that we would forgo lunch for a phone call.  We arrived to a shack of a place that had a dead lawn and old paint and with eagerness knocked on the door. A man with a dirty undershirt and jeans greeted us with a loaded .38 at his side. The expression of joy escaped his face as he asked us to enter. He would explain that he had lost his job, kids and wife and was going to loose his home. The gun was for him to end it all if we had not shown.
